PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect accurately displacement of a mechanical element. SOLUTION: This displacement detecting device is equipped with a displaceable mechanical element; a magnet connected to the mechanical element and magnetized in the displacement direction of the mechanical element; a search coil including a first coil part and a second coil part connected in series and arranged on both sides of the magnet in the displacement direction separately by at least a distance corresponding to the sum of a displacement quantity to be detected of the mechanical element and the length in the displacement direction of the magnet; and a displacement calculation means for calculating the displacement of the mechanical element based on a value obtained by integrating a voltage induced in the search coil in response to the displacement of the magnet. The induced voltage of the search coil has a linear relation to the sum of magnetic flux of the two coil parts, and the sum of the magnetic flux has a linear relation to the displacement, therefore, the displacement can be detected easily and accurately from the induced voltage of the search coil.
