RESIN COATER FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin coater for optical fiber designed to uniformly coat an optical fiber in high linear velocity with a resin to a thickness so as to be about 400μm in the outer diameter of the final optical fiber. SOLUTION: This resin coater has such a scheme that the underside of a nipple 2 and the top face of a die 3 with a tapered hole are mutually disposed at an interval and a resin is fed under pressure from the periphery of the gap; the resin is drawn at the tapered part of the die and applied onto an optical fiber passing through the tapered part; the diameter F of the hole of the nipple is smaller than the diameter H at the entrance of the hole of the die, the space B of the gap between the nipple and die is H/4 or greater but not greater than 4H, and the taper angleαof the tapered part of the die is 2 to 8 deg.; and the length D of the straight portion of the exit part of the die is smaller than the diameter G of the exit hole of the die.
