PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic solid surface-modifying agent which can efficiently largely improve the affinity of the inorganic solid with a medium in a small amount and gives a non-affected composition, even when a large amount of the inorganic solid is compounded. SOLUTION: This inorganic solid surface-modifying agent represented by the general formula (I): -(CHX-CHY-O)p-(Z)q- [X is H, a 1 to 30C hydrocarbon which may contain one or more carboxyl groups, hydroxyl groups, or ester groups, or the like, Y is a 6 to 30C hydrocarbon group which may contain one or more ester groups, or the like; Z is a polymer unit originated from a monomer which can be copolymerized with a polymerization unit represented by the formula: (CHX-CHY-O); (p)>=4, and (q)>=0], and the inorganic solid whose surface is at least partially coated with the surface-modifying agent, and a composition containing the surface-modifying agent and the inorganic solid.
