PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform display and adjustment of a residual recordable time with respect to a digital recording and reproducing device. SOLUTION: Data are recorded in a HDD 119 in a format of OPF. In the case of timer reservation, a residual recordable time is calculated and displayed based on a container information file of the OPF. When a recording time desired to reserve is shorter than a residual recordable time, timer reservation is received, but when it is not the above, the effect is informed to a user before receiving reservation, processing such as change of a video recording mode, erasing a needless title, and the like is selected by a user.
