PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable gage truck for a railroad vehicle being further excellent in reliability such that under normal conditions wheels are prevented from assuming a state in which a gage can be varied, by always locking a locking block to an axle box at times other than when the gage is varied. SOLUTION: Under normal conditions wherein the gage is not varied, a displacement member 60 does not make contact with a support means 42 for supporting the axle box 20, so that a locking member 90, energized by a coil spring 88, is projected toward and brought into engagement with the locking block 30 and locked to the axle box 20. To vary the gage, the displacement member 60 is brought into contact with the support means 42 and displaced, with the displacement of the oscillating end 62 of the displacement member 60 causing the locking member 90 to move back via a rod 70 and a cam 83 and thereby releasing the locking block 30 from the state of being locked to the axle box 20 by the locking member 90.
