PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assembly line of a vehicle body panel or the like using a versatile pallet having no power means. SOLUTION: A plurality of pallets P which position and place a vehicle body side panel 2 in an attachable/detachable manner and are moved along a circulating carrying passage 1 are introduced in the circulating carrying passage 1 provided with predetermined working and assembly stations 11-18. A slide member 69 movable in the horizontal direction is arranged on the pallets P. The slide member 69 is engaged with a lock bar 83 by a lock arm 82 at a desired position. A hexagonal plate 75 having a plurality of kinds of positioning jigs (a positioning pin 76, a panel receiver 77) to position and place the side panel 2 is mounted on an upper end of a stay 73 on the slide member 69. The hexagonal plate 75 is locked by the lock arm 93 at a desired position of rotation. The lock arms 82 and 93 are operated by articulated robots 19a and 19b arranged on the side of a second station.
