PURPOSE: A method for detecting the steering neutral position of a vehicle is provided to accurately detect a steering angle without an error by correcting a steering angle even if the steering neutral position is changed. CONSTITUTION: A method for detecting the steering neutral position of a vehicle comprises the steps of detecting the initial neutral position of a steering wheel by receiving an optical signal from a light emitting unit(110) through plural slits formed on a disk, detecting the steering angle corresponding to an optical pulse provided from a counter(130) in the neutral position, correcting the steering angle by adding or subtracting 360 angular degrees or 720 angular degrees if a current vehicle speed is over a predetermined vehicle speed.
