摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image correction method and device for eliminating highly-dense noises. SOLUTION: Smooting an original image which is a binary image converts the image once into a multi-gradation contrast image. This contrast image is divided into blocks, a mean gray scale for each block is calculated, a mean gray scale between the gray scale of a target block and the gray scale among blocks which are adjacent horizontal and vertical to the target block is obtained, the resulting gray scale is used for a threshold corresponding to all pixels in the target block, and a threshold image consisting of the threshold is generated. Finally, the magnitude correlation between each pixel value of the contrast image and a pixel value of the threshold image corresponding thereto is checked, '1' is set, when greater and '0' is set in other cases, the contrast image is restored again to the binary image. Thus, high dense noises that cannot be eliminated by a conventional technology, such as high dense small white dot noises of a graphic part and highly dense small black dot noise on a background part can be eliminated. As a result, when applying the image processor to a character recognition device or the like, errors in segmentation of characters of a received document image and errors in recognition of the characters from a scanner or a facsimile terminal can be decreased.
