PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup with which a tracking error sign of a good S-shape characteristic and a focus error signal may be obtained. SOLUTION: The optical pickup 50 has an objective lens 4 which condense and supplies the laser beam from a laser 2 to the tracks of an optical disk 80, a prism 8 to which the laser beam reflected by the optical disk 80 is supplied via the objective lens 4 and a photodetector 7. The ridge line 8Z with the track direction in the prism 8 to which the laser beam reflected by the optical disk 80 is supplied forms an angle of about 45 deg. and the laser beam passes above the ridge line 8Z, is bisected in the perpendicular direction of the ridge line 8Z and is supplied to the photodetector 7. The photodetector 7 has a first main photodetecting section which receives one of both laser beams and a second main photodetecting section which receives the other thereof. The first and second main photodetecting sections are bisected by a main bisecting line. The main bisecting line and the column direction where both laser beams line up are perpendicular. |
