PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a food additive lactide. SOLUTION: A high-purity refined lactide is obtained by contacting a crude lactide in a solid state or a partly or wholly molten state with ethanol to obtain a mixture in a slurry condition followed by separating the solid from the mixture. The food additive lactide is obtained by recrystallizing a crude lactide from a native ethanol or denatured ethanol. An animal and/or vegetable protein coagulating agent is provided by using as the main component the above lactide with optical activity. |
