PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet thickness detecting device which can suppress an overshooting when paper sheets are plunged in, has resolution in the direction of crossing orthogonally the carrying direction of the paper sheets and can obtain detailed thickness information for every position on the surface of the paper sheets. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a thickness detection device 4A which displaces a plurality of detection rolls 76 to 91 and detects the thickness of paper money P according to its displacement quantity by making the money P pass through between a reference rolls 67 and the rolls 76 to 91 arranged at the opposite positions from the rolls 67 over its axis direction, a plurality of detection levers 116 to 125 holding the rolls 76 to 91 and a shaft 128 for positioning which forms a gap G between the rolls 76 to 91 and the rolls 67 by making the levers 116 to 125 abut on one another and supporting them. |
