PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire electric discharge machining apparatus which can reduce the amount of brass adhered to a surface of a work when achieving the machining by an AC pulse power source, stabilize the finishing, and improve the machining efficiency. SOLUTION: The machining speed V is obtained during the machining, and the area machining speed VT is obtained from the machining speed V and the pre-inputted thickness T of a work 15. The target consumable wire diameterδ(for example, 7% of the wire diameter) to specify the consumption of a wire 2 is obtained from the pre-inputted diameter of the wire 2. The wire traveling speed F is obtained from the formula F=VT×k/δ, and a motor 10 is controlled so that the wire traveling speed is F where k is the machining coefficient according to a material of the work 15.
