Novel Cyclohexenylacetic acid derivatives of the formula wherein R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each represents H or C 1-5 alkyl, n is 1 to 4, and X is OH, NH 2 , - NHOH, or alkylamino, their optical isomers and salts thereof where # is OH or NHOH are prepared by reacting the corresponding C 1-S alkyl esters with compounds of the formula HX. Ethylα(4 - cyclohexyl - 1 - cyclohexen 1- yl)-propionate is obtained by dehydrating ethyl a - (1 - hydroxy - 4 - cyclohexylayclohexyl) propionate, resulting from the reaction of 4-cyclohexylcyclohexanone with ethyl a-bromopropionate. In a similar way the following compounds are prepared: ethyl a- (4-cyclohexy- 1 - cyclohexen - 1 - yl)butyrate, ethyl a - (1 hydroxy - 4- cyclohexyloyolohexyl)butyrate, ethyl a- (4 - cyclohexyl - 1 - cyclohexen - 1 - yl)isobutyrate, ethyl a - (1 - hydroxy - 4 - cyclohexylcyclohexyl)isobutyrate, ethyl a - (4 - (1 - methylcyclohexyl) 1- cyclohexen - 1 - yl) propionate, ethyl a - (1- hydroxy - 4(1 - methylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl) propionate, ethyl a - (4 - (1 - methylcyclopentyl)- 1 - cyclohexen 1 - yl] propionate and ethyl a- [1 - hydroxy - 4 - (1 - methylcyclopentyl)cycle. hexyl]propionate Pharmaceutical compositions, having analgesic and antiinflammatory activities, and suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration contain the above novel compounds and salts thereof in admixture or conjunction with pharmaceutioally suitable carriers.
