PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a header detection circuit for omitting excessive processings by stopping a read operation when the number of times of the non-detection of a header exceeds error correction ability. SOLUTION: This header detection circuit 107 is provided with a header pattern detection circuit 403 for judging whether or not decoding data match with a prescribed header pattern, and in the case of header non-detection, a timing generation circuit 404 generates a header error flag corresponding to it. The number of times of generating the header error flag is counted in a counter 405, and when the number of times of the header non-detection reaches 2, a comparator 406 generates stop signals. A controller 112 stops the read operation corresponding to the stop signals.
