1301106 Nestable containers ES & A ROBINSON Ltd 26 Oct 1970 [31 Oct 1969] 53475/69 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A method of making nestable drinking cups from sheet material forming containers with stacking ledges in their walls according to at least two different patterns e, f, the arrangement of the ledges being such that when two containers of different patterns are nested one within the other the upper container is supported in the lower by a portion of the upper container not occupied by a stacking ledge resting on a stacking ledge of the lower container. As shown in the case of a tray in one pattern (e) the ledges 42 are formed in the bottom 34 of the container adjacent the corners thereof and in the other f, the ledges 42 are formed in the bottom over a middle portion of the longitudinal sides thereof. The ledges may also be provided in an upper peripheral, flange (28 Figs.3-5) or in the tops of partitions (18, Figs.1 2). In another embodiment three patterns (g-k, Fig.8) having pairs of ledges (54) located between the container bottom (46) and (walls 48, 50) may be used. The containers may be made of polystyrene, H.O. polythene, polypropylene, P.V.C., A.B.S. or combinations thereof produced for example by co-extrusion or lamination. The ledges may be formed simultaneously with or subsequently to the formation of the containers. |
