PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely conduct the impulse exciting test of a spindle by a simple operation by merely mounting a dummy tool. SOLUTION: The dummy tool 1 is attachably and detachably mounted at the spindle 4 of a machine tool. The tool 1 has a hammer 5 for hitting the tool 1, a permanent magnet 7 and electromagnets 8, 9 for driving the hammer 5, a force detector 10 for detecting the vibration of the tool 1, an acceleration pickup 11, an amplifier 13 for the electromagnets, an amplifier 14 for the pickup, a battery 15 and a processor 16 therein. A connector 17 is provided at the end of the tool 1, and the processor 16 is connected to an external measuring instrument or a computer.
