PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader, with which the reduction of power consumption is promoted by suppressing useless power consumption without making reading of an image unstable. SOLUTION: Concerning the image reader having plural chips K1, K2,..., Km respectively having an optic/electric converting element for converting an optical signal to an electric signal for successively reading the optic/electric converted signals of the electric signal provided by the optic/electric converting element from the plural chips K1, K2,..., Km, a circuit related to reading of the optic/electric converted signals out of the respective chips K1, K2,..., Km can be operated just from the reading start of the optic/electric converted signal from that chip before prescribed time to the end of reading.
