PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device wherein a liquid crystal driving IC or the like can surely be prevented from being damaged during operation of mounting a polarizing plate or the like on the substrate of the liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: This is a liquid crystal device constituted by mounting an IC chip 16 on one of a pair of substrates 2a, 2b interposing a liquid crystal 14 in-between, and a thickness H2 up to the height of the IC chip 16 is set to be thicker than a thickness H1 up to the adjoining substrate 2b, but is set to be equal to or thinner than the thickness H3 up to a phase difference plate 10 mounted on the substrate 2b and the thickness H4 up to a polarizing plate 11. Since the thickness up to the phase difference plate 10 or the like is thicker than the thickness up to the IC chip 16, when the 2nd substrate 2b side is mounted on a base part to perform operation of mounting a polarizing plate 11a on the 1st substrate, it is surely possible to prevent the IC chip 16 from being abutted on the base part and prevent excessive force being applied to the IC chip 16.
