PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a polarizing member capable of forming a liquid crystal display, having high luminance and hardly generating unevenness of color at a wide visual field angle in the frontal and oblique viewing directions. SOLUTION: This polarizing member comprising at least a quarter-wave plate 3 and, as needed, a polarizing plate 4 provided on one side or both sides of a Grand jean aligned cholesteric liquid crystal layer 1 via a light diffusion layer 2 and the liquid crystal display device using the polarizing plate. Circularly polarized light by the cholesteric liquid crystal layer is leveled in the light diffusion layer and can be supplied to the quarter-wave plate, and thereby coloring in the oblique-viewing direction is reduced, while brightness in the frontal viewing direction is kept satisfactorily to be able to prevent color unevenness. |
