PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the strength of barrier ribs to prevent the breakage from being caused during sealing a panel, thereby realizing image display with high density free from mis-discharging and spot defect. SOLUTION: The back plate is provided with at least a substrate 2; a plurality of address electrodes 3 formed on the substrate; a dielectric layer 4 formed on the substrate so as to cover the address electrodes 3; and barrier ribs 5 formed on the dielectric layer. When the height of the barrier ribs 5 is defined as h, its shear fracture strength from the back side is 20 g or more at a height of h/2. Further, the barrier ribs 5 are characterized in that when compressed from the upper surface by a glass sheet to cause a defect, a stress per unit area in the top of the barrier ribs is more than 1 N/mm2. The barrier ribs have a sufficient strength, and can prevent breakage from being caused when the back plate is laminated with a front plate and then sealed. Accordingly, it is possible to provide a plasma display panel capable of realizing image display with high density free from mis-discharging and spot defect.
