PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initialization method for a communication device such as an MPF that can surely execute the processing corresponding to the data which are received from a network where an option device is connected and also to provide a communication device which uses the initialization method. SOLUTION: The partial initialization of the communication part of an option device 2 serving as a subordinate device, i.e., the initialization of at least of an application layer of a communication protocol program of the communication part is carried out after the initialization of a facsimile machine 1 serving as a master device is over.
