PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedal device capable of expand the range of pedal depression force capable of fixedly maintaining the turning position of a pedal arm in accordance with the depression quality of a pedal, which can be compactly installed as compared with a dummy cable and which is capable of extremely simply executing reaction adjustment having a hysteresis characteristic and provided with a damper reduced at its characteristic changes and the damper suitable for the pedal device. SOLUTION: The pedal device 1 for an automobile is provided with a supporting frame 2, an accelerator pedal arm 3 supported by the frame 2 so as to be freely rotated around an axis A in an R direction to be a direction around the axis A, a spring means 4 for rotationally energizing the arm 3 to an initial turning position, and the damper 5 for applying resistance to be gradually increased to the rotation of the arm 3 from the initial turning position in the R direction.
