PURPOSE: A surface treatment agent and a method for treating the surface of Fe-Zn based alloy plated steel sheet using the same are provided to endow Fe-Zn based alloy plated steel sheet with excellent properties superior to conventional flash plated steel sheets by forming reactive alloy layer thereon, thus improving weldability, machinability, corrosion resistance and paintability. CONSTITUTION: The surface treatment agent comprises H3PO4 1.8 to 2.0 g/l, MnNO3 0.15 to 0.46 g/l, NiNO3 2.4 to 7.2 g/l, NaOH 10 to 15 g/l, and HF 0.5 to 1.0 g/l. The method for treating the surface of Fe-Zn based alloy plated steel sheet is characterized in that the surface treatment agent reacts with Fe-Zn based alloy plated steel sheet for 5 to 10 seconds while keeping the temperature of the surface treatment agent within 55 to 65 deg.C to control the adhesion amount of the surface treatment agent within 0.7 to 1.0 g/m¬2.
