PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voltage controlled oscillator of a dielectric resonator control type having a far wider electric tuning range than that of a conventional voltage controlled oscillator while maintaining the characteristic of a low phase noise and of the oscillation over a wide frequency range by means of its mechanical tuning mechanism. SOLUTION: The voltage controlled oscillator employs a TE01δmode dielectric resonator(DR) 1 for a resonance element of an oscillation circuit. One side of the DR 1 is supported in a metallic case 10 via a quartz block support base 5 and a piezoelectric element 3 that is expanded/contracted in response to a control voltage and whose one end is fixed in the metallic case 10. Furthermore, the voltage controlled oscillator is provided with a sub DR 2 the distance X1 of one side of which with respect to the other side of the DR 1 can be changed and fixed. The piezoelectric element 3 acts like an electric tuning element that fine-tunes the oscillated frequency and the sub DR 2 acts like a mechanical tuning element that tunes the oscillated frequency over a broadband.
