PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of displaying a distinct projected image in accordance with high-resolution image information, restraining cost rising to the absolute minimum and further coping with the multi-monitoring function or the like of an operating system. SOLUTION: This projector 1 is equipped with a lamp 2, liquid crystal panels 3 and 4 modulating luminous flux emitted from the lamp 2 in accordance with the image information, and a projection lens 5 enlarging and projecting the modulated luminous flux modulated by the panels 3 and 4. The panels 3 and 4 modulate the luminous flux in respective two areas obtained by dividing an optical image formed based on the image information in accordance with the two areas. Therefore, one projector copes with various kinds of resolution by combining plural optical modulation devices in accordance with the resolution of the inputted image information.
