Method for finding images from an image database using an example image (E1). Steps E2-E8 of the method are concerned with selection of an area of interest in the example image, recording each area of interest, calculation of an index from the example image dependent on image type, an image matching step between images in the database and the example image, and display of selected matching images. The invention also relates to a device and a computer system for searching for images in an image database based on a search image example.
