PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set for executing a previously registered function by applying light impulse to the portable telephone set and recognizing an impulse pattern while paying attention to easy operation. SOLUTION: When a physical impulse from the outside is applied to the portable telephone set, an impulse sensor 1 senses the impulse, converts the impulse to a digital signal and transmits it to an impulse discriminating device 2. In the impulse discriminating device 2, the digital signal transmitted from the impulse sensor 1 is collated with an impulse pattern previously registered in an impulse pattern storage device 4 and corresponding to the impulse pattern, each of functions in an existent portable telephone function part 7 can be called. Namely, the impulse discriminating device 2 outputs a control signal for driving the function corresponding to the impulse pattern to the existent portable telephone function part 7. The existent portable telephone function part 7 executes the called function (drives a prescribed function according to a control signal).
