PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to the compactness of a device size and to prevent the inversion of the surface/rear sides of rejected paper money. SOLUTION: The paper sheets reader is provided with a take-in means 2 which collectively takes plural paper sheets P into a reader, a feed-out means 3 feeding out one sheet from the bundle of paper sheets P which are once taken in, a reading means 4 reading the filled content of the paper sheet P which is fed out one by one, a discrimination means 61 discriminating the appropriateness/inappropriateness of the paper sheets P from the filled content which is read and a distribution means 5 sending the paper sheet P when it is appropriate and discharging the paper sheet to an outer side when it is inappropriate. The distribution means 5 directly moves the paper sheet P to the back of the reader when the discrimination result is appropriate and reverses the paper sheet P with respect to a discharge port 14 installed in an insertion port-side when the discrimination result is inappropriate.
