PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wind vane and anemometer using a novel measuring principle capable of measuring a wind direction and a wind speed by substituting an optical transmission loss of an optical fiber for the the wind direction and the wind speed. SOLUTION: A strut 1 having a wind indicator 2 and a wind receiving plate 3 is supported to be inclinedly moved and rotatable by a supporting part 4 formed by a ball joint. A pressure transmitting member comprising an inner member 5 and a movable ring 6 is arranged in a lower end outer circumference of the strud 1, a large number of photosensors 7 is arranged with a fixed pitch along a circumferential direction in an outside of the ring 6, pressure is transmitted from the strud 1 to the optical sensors 7 in a windward side by the inclination of the strud 1 caused by wind pressure to actuate the optical sensors 7, and the optical transmission loss is generated thereby in the optical fiber 7b in response to the wind pressure. The wind direction and the wind speed are found based on a generation position and a generation level of the optical transmission loss.
