PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in an optical disk such that a reproduced signal is remarkably deteriorated when the signal recorded at the 2nd time is reproduced, and also the actually usable capacity of the disk is decreased when the quality of the signal recorded at the 2nd time is defective. SOLUTION: In an application system 110, the overwriting recording is made on the optical disk 101 by the verifying operation when reproduced data from the optical disk 101 are not coincident with the recorded data. After that, the same address is reproduced by a front end 1 to check in a signal processing circuit 106 whether the quality of the reproduced signal shows the specified value or better. When the quality of the reproduced signal shows less than the specified value, each part is controlled by a system controller 108 so as to record again the same address, and the quality of the reproduced signal is again checked in the same way as the above. When overwritten more than twice, the signal quality of the better reproduced signal is held as compared with the reproduced signal of the overwriting recording at the 1st time.
