PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical reader which can prevent the intrusion of dust having more than a prescribed particle size into a case body while the clouding of a transparent body is prevented even in a condition that mist in the case is easily condensed on the inner face side of the case body. SOLUTION: The optical reader is provided with a transparent body 2, an optical reading means 4 and the case body 5 covering an optical path between the optical reading means 4 and the transparent body 2. A work reading a picture is constituted so as to pass through the outer surface of the transparent body 2. The inner part of the case body 5 has a closely sealed space by the transparent body 2 and the case body 5. Holes for air passage, which connect the closely sealed space to the outer part of the case body 5, are formed in the case body 5. The inner surface and the outer part of the transparent body 2 are constituted so that air can circulate.
