PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder, capable of simplifying an image signal processing and capable of setting a range finding area near the closest object, irrespective of the contrast of an object. SOLUTION: This range finder is provided with photodetecting elements 4a and 4b for separately photodetecting a pair of field images formed by an optical system having parallax, and then outputting a pair of field image signals, a differential calculating part 15 for removing a high frequency component equal to or exceeding a prescribed frequency included in the field image signals, grouping prescribed areas including the maximum value, locally normalizing while taking the maximum value as a full scale value at every group and obtaining a difference signal as a difference between the pair of outputted values, an SW, and a CPU 13 for comparing the difference signal with a prescribed value, and the detecting a range finding allowable area whose value is equal to or exceeding the prescribed value. |
