PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power interchanger in which the size is reduced and the installation space is saved by reducing the capacity of primary winding of an AC secondary excitation variable speed changer. SOLUTION: The power interchanger comprises an AC secondary excitation variable speed changer 1 having a primary winding connected with a first power system, a synchronous machine 3 having a spindle coupled with the AC secondary excitation variable speed changer and an armature winding connected with a second power system, and a secondary exciter 2 connected between the secondary winding of the AC secondary excitation variable speed changer and the first power system wherein the rotational operating speed of the AC secondary excitation variable speed changer is set higher than the reference synchronization speed thereof.
