An electrical short-circuiting device has at least one switch which is activated to switch off an accidental arc during occurrence of arcing, for which purpose at least one sensor is provided for detecting the accidental arc. A triggerable switch (40) from power-pulse techniques is used as the switch and enables switch-on times in the micro-second range for controlling the accidental arc. The triggerable switch is specifically a semiconductor switch, such as a thyristor. More specifically, the triggerable switch is a gas-discharge switch.
