A photocopier has an optical scanning system that enables a specific area to be masked by the entry of coordinate points onto a panel. The system has the original located on the top surface (5) of the scanning unit that has a light source (24) reflected off the original and signal reflected by mirrors onto the surface of a photo sensitive drum (20). Paper is fed from a magazine (9) through guide channels to the drum where a series of stages allow an image to be transferred and developed. The area copied is defined by a front panel facility that allows defining coordinates to be entered.
