Ink-jet printers requires regular cleaning and subsequent disposal of used ink, particularly so with oil-based inks where very little evaporation takes place with the ink kept in a closed container which must be regularly disposed of. A measurement sensor (10a;10b) in the suction line (5a;7a) measures the low air pressure (partial vacuum) and the measurement signals are analyzed/evaluated in a switching control (11) for the duration and intensity of the suction process.
