The staircase railing(1) has upright supports(11,12) which are each formed by a flat bar(20) fitted with its transverse axis approximately at right angles to the handrail(8) and to the rails(9,10) running horizontally between the supports. The end of the support facing the hand rail is forked to accommodate a roller assembly(25) on the handrail, and bores(36) are provided in the supports to accommodate a swivel component(35) on each horizontal rail.
