The invention relates to a thick matter pump comprising at least pump units (1,2) which alternate between at least two operational mode i.e. a pumping operational mode and a suction operational modes. The pump comprises a pump line, a suction line and a reversing valve which is used to switch between pump units whereby the reversing valve connects a pump unit in a pumping operational mode to the pump line and which connects a pump unit in the suction operational mode to the suction line. The aim of the invention is to improve, the filling level of the pump unit during the suction operational mode. To achieve this, a pressure boosting device (17) is provided in the region of the suction line. Said device operates independently from the pump units in order to actively bring about the compression of thick matter. The pressure boosting device (17) comprises squeezing elements (15, 16) which press the flexible part of the suction line section (10) together.
