<p>Carbapenem compounds represented by general formula (I), and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof, [wherein R1 is acyl derived from an α-amino acid whose amino group may be substituted with lower alkyl; R2 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and R3 is optionally substituted phenyl]. The compounds (I) and the salts exhibit excellent absorbability in the digestive tract when orally administered, and activated substances formed therefrom in vivo exhibit satisfactory antimicrobial activities against a wide variety of microbes. Thus, the compounds (I) and the salts are extremely useful as preventive or therapeutic agents for infectious diseases, particularly microbism.</p> |
