The coating apparatus disclosed in Specification 1,055,377 is modified by the provision of a frusto-conical filling hopper at the inlet of the inner drum and the drum being movable during operation to an inclination out of the horizontal position in such a manner as to lower the filling hopper. There is preferably an apertured partition between the hopper and the inner drum the aperture being variable in cross-section and the hopper has struts or stays along its inner wall, one of which leads to the aperture. A removable lid is provided for the hopper which has a filling opening preferably of a hollow cone projecting into the hopper. To permit the inclination of the drum it is preferably mounted together with its drive mechanism in a cradle which has arcuate bearing surfaces. |
