The vehicle air bag module housing (10) for a gas generator (36) and air bag (12) has two holders (14,18) for the bag, to clamp it between them. The holders have at least one ramp surface (24,30) so that the bag is held and the clamping forces between the holders produce a perpendicular retaining force on the bag.
