HIGH-QUALITY BISPHENOL A AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

High-quality bisphenol A which has a sodium content of 80 ppb or lower and in which the contents of the elements in group (A) consisting of iron, nickel, chromium, manganese, lead, and molybdenum each is 50 ppb or lower; or high-quality bisphenol A in which the content of organic compounds such as a 1-naphthol derivative, 9,9'-dimethylxanthene, 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,4,4-trimethylchroman, and 2,2,4-trimethylchromene is not higher than a specific value; and a process for producing the high-quality bisphenol A. When the high-quality bisphenol A is used as a starting material to produce an aromatic polycarbonate, the polycarbonate does not color during the production or molding thereof.
