1340713 Burning liquid wastes PPG INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 24625/71 Heading F4B Liquid waste, such as waste oil, is fed at substantially atmospheric pressure to form a pool on a hearth 44 at the bottom of a combustion chamber 22 with air inlets 24 and flue outlet 23. A burner 42 heats the hearth 44 before liquid waste is fed in, and ignites the fuel vaporized in the hearth. Operation continues without the burner as the heat of the burning vapour evaporates the liquid from the pool. In a modification, Fig. 3, an annular channel section hearth 60 moves through a combustion chamber 52. The liquid fuel is fed in as the hearth enters the chamber 52, and a burner below the hearth starts the operation. A cleaning station 84 has a brush and a suction pipe to remove solid residues from the hearth, and air seals, Fig. 5, are provided at the entry and exit points of the hearth, the fuel feed pipe 72 entering one air seal assembly. |
