1,216,884. Heat treating polyamide fabrics. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 30 Sept., 1968 [29 Sept., 1967], No. 46378/68. Heading B5B. A fabric containing oriented fibres of a polycarbonamide prepared from bis-(4-aminocyclohexyl)-methane containing 55-100% of the trans-trans isomer and dodecanoic acid, said fibres having an average X-ray orientation index (as defined in the Specification) of 1À0-3À0, is heated to a temperature above 150‹ C. but below the m.p. of the polymer whereby the X-ray orientation index increases by at least 1À5 units. The said index is a measure of polymer crystallinity. The fabric may be made of mixed filaments, e.g. of a polymer based on the above components and of a polymer based on these and isophthalic acid, having a shrinkage less than 10% on boil off and a shrinkage differential of at least 1À5%. The heat treatment, which may be effected in two stages, imparts crease resistance. In examples the fabric is built up of symmetrical trilobal filaments. |
