Chemically modified supports which enable efficient clarification or preservation of DNA and are useful in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, etc. These supports are characterized by having been chemically modified by immobilizing one end of a hydrocarbyl group, which carries an activated ester group bonded to the other end, on the surface of the supports via an amide bond.
