PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock-absorbing member made of cardboard in which it can be easily assembled for absorbing shock and protecting a packaged item during its packaging work and it has a superior shock absorbing and protecting effect. SOLUTION: There is provided a shock-absorbing member 2 applied to cover an end part of a packaged item 1. This shock-absorbing member is comprised of a rear surface plate 4; upper and lower plates 5, 6 cooperatively arranged at both upper and lower ends of the rear surface plate 4; a U-shaped plate 21 cooperatively arranged at a lower end of an upper side front plate 9 and a U-shaped plate 26 cooperatively arranged at an upper end of the lower front surface plate 10 so as to form recesses 11 provided with front surface plates 9, 10 facing a fitted side with the packaged item 1 around it while applying recess to each of the plates 7, 8 cooperatively arranged at front ends of the upper and lower plates 5, 6; and right and left side plates 17 cooperatively arranged at both right and left ends of the rear surface plate 4. Slits 20 formed at extremity end plates 21a, 26a of each of the U-shaped plates 21, 26 are engaged with the right and left side plates 17, and plates 22, 27 are cooperatively arranged at the extremity end plates 21a, 26a of each of the U-shaped plates 21, 26 to form bottom parts of the recesses 11.
