PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an inexpensive high strength titanium alloy having strength characteristics equal to or above those of an alloy of Ti-6%Al-4%V occupying 80% of the present titanium alloy. SOLUTION: This high strength titanium alloy has a composition containing 5.50 to 7.00% Al, 3.50 to 4.50% V, 0.40 to 1.00% Fe, 0.25 to 0.70% O, <=0.10% C, <=0.10% N, and the balance Ti with inevitable impurities, in which the V equivalent shown by the following numerical formula 1 is 3.5 to 8.0%, and also, the O equivalent shown by the numerical formula 2 is prescribed by 0.25 to 0.70%: (numerical formula 1) V equivalent = V%+4.2.Fe%, and (numerical formula 2) O equivalent = 0%+1.6.N%+0.9.C%.
