METHOD FOR PRODUCING HYDRIDE OF RING-OPENING METATHESIS POLYMER OF CYCLIC OLEFIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing a ring-opening metathesis polymerization of a cyclic olefin monomer and then hydrogenating the obtained polymer, having a wide utility for the cyclic olefin monomers and capable of hydrogenating the produced polymer with a small amount of a catalyst in a good efficiency and stably. SOLUTION: This method for producing a hydride is provided by performing the ring-opening metathesis polymerization of the cyclic olefin monomer by using a transition metal compound belonging to the 4-8th group in the Periodic table, and then hydrogenating carbon-carbon unsaturated bond in the obtained polymer in the presence of a newly added catalyst consisting of a transition metal belonging to the 8th or 9th group in the Periodic table-carbene compound.
