PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode wire for electric discharge machining having improved, discharge machining characteristics. SOLUTION: This electrode wire for wire electric discharge machining comprises a core material and a plurality of coating layers covering the outer spherical surface of the core material. These core material and the plurality of coating layer have the material quality different from each other, and each of the coating layers comprises the metal selected from Cu, Sn, Ag, Al, Zn, Cs, Se, Te, Mg, Bi, Ti, P, In, Cr, and Fe or its alloy.
