PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dyeing composition for carrying out the coloring having sufficient strength, chromaticity and resistance to various attacking elements to be received by the hair, and further to provide a dyeing method. SOLUTION: This dyeing composition contains an oxidation base selected from double base salts of formula (I) [Z1 and Z2 are each a hydroxyl or NH2 (saturated with an alkyl or the like); bond Y is an alkylene chain or the like; R1 and R2 are each an alkyl or the like; and R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 are each the bond Y, an alkylene or the like] and an acid-addition salt thereof, and a coupler selected from a 2-substituted 5-aminoalkylphenol derivative of formula (II) [R9 is a (substituted) 2-5C acyl or the like; R10 is a (substituted) alkyl or the like; R11 is an alkoxy or the like; and R12 is an alkyl] and an acid-addition salt thereof in a medium suitable for dyeing. The dyeing composition can be applied to the keratinuous fiber.
